Halloween Brain Cake

A Halloween centrepiece: a red velvet cake carved into an oval, piped with squiggles of pink frosting and glazed with red jam so it looks like a brain. The Ultra Pro 2 l bakes a deep, even cake that holds its shape when carved, and the Whip N Mix Chef mixes the batter by hand.

Method

  1. Heat the oven to the temperature given on the cake mix box. In the Tupperware Whip N Mix Chef, add the liquid ingredients first, then the cake mix, and turn the handle on gear II until smooth.

  2. Pour the batter into the Tupperware Ultra Pro 2 l (2 qt) and bake for the time shown on the box. Let the cake cool completely, then turn it out.

  3. Slice the cake in half horizontally with the Tupperware Universal Series Serrated Knife. Spread 3 medium scoops of frosting over the bottom layer with the Tupperware Silicone Spatula, replace the top layer and press down.

  4. Carve the cake into an oval with sloping sides. Cover it with a very thin coat of frosting, using 3 to 4 more scoops, and chill until this crumb coat is firm.

  5. Spoon the rest of the frosting into a piping bag with a large round tip. Mark a light line down the middle with the spatula to separate the two halves, then pipe wavy lines over one half and then the other. Chill for 45 minutes to 1 hour so the frosting sets.

  6. Put the jam and water in the Tupperware Micro Pitcher 2-cup, cover and microwave at full power (1000 W maximum) for 15 to 30 seconds, just until the jam melts. Let it cool if it is hot.

  7. Pour the jam over the cake, brushing it into any spots where pink frosting still shows, and refrigerate until serving.
